This is obviously not a book for the easily offended. Anyone familiar with Dawson’s brand of comedy would be aware. These essays are uncensored and while touching and hilarious will not be well received by everyone. The stories touch on his life’s pivotal moments. From his signature haircut, first kisses, prom and death.
The use of essays instead of a full length memoir was a great choice. We hear about all the key moments in the Youtube celebrity’s life without ever feeling as though we have to slog through boring sections. The humour may be a tad bit immature but it’s exactly what anyone should expect picking this novel up. More important than Dawson’s funny and charismatic writing style is that the stories are relatable. He was bullied, he’s insecure, he didn’t have his first kiss until much later in life. It’s easy to forget that such a seemingly confident star with over six million subscribers might still have the same problems everyone else does. It’s a wonderful read for fans, and anyone who feels like things won’t get better.
